NewCourtland Nursing Student

What is Practical Nursing?

Practical Nursing is an integral part of nursing; the practical nurse assumes a collaborative role as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team and functions under the supervision of a licensed physician, registered nurse or dentist to make a significant contribution to improve the quality of care.

Through the performance of selected nursing actions which do not require the specialized skills, knowledge and judgment of the registered nurse, the practical nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet the basic needs of clients.
